 Global Warming

Some people maintain that we are just in an inter-glacial period, and that global warming is a fake.  But we personally believe that global warming is real, and that we need to do a lot to stop it.  This section will talk about all the ways under the sun and beyond to help stall global warming.

Global warming: n, The progressive gradual rise of the Earth's average surface temperature thought to be caused in part by increased concentrations of greenhouse gas (GHG) in the atmosphere.

Here is an animated diagram that helps you understand about global warming.

Is our Ozone really disappearing, and why should and why is everyone making such a big fuss about it? I personally think that scientists are being rational to try something to help stop it, or at least slow the process down. Some people, on the other hand, think that we're getting hyped up about nothing, like, big whoop, our kids will never get to see a polar bear. I disagree. I believe that we need to preserve the earth, for ourselves and our posterity.

Let's pretend that global warming is a monster.  Our monster is attacking the world, one bit at a time.  This monster works by polluting the world, so that the creatures on earth are weakened.  Then our monster moves in for attack.  Guess what?  We are helping that monster tremendously.  We need to stop helping the monster.  We need to make our earth a better place.

There are some very simple things that everyone can do to help stop global warming:

  1. Turn off the lights when you leave a room. Use fluorescent bulbs in your room.
  2. Turn off your computer or the TV when you’re not using it. Unplug chargers when not in use.
  3. Wait until you have a lot of clothes to wash before using the washing machine. Don’t use the machine for one item just because it’s your favorite shirt. You can even wear some clothes more than once a week. Just because you wore it for a few minutes, dosn't make it dirty.
  4. Take shorter showers. Heating water uses energy. It helps if you take military showers.

  5. Close the blinds on a hot day if the sun is shining in. Dress lightly instead of turning up the air conditioning.  Or use a non-electrical fan.
  6. Dress warmly when it’s cold, instead of turning up the heat.
  7. Offer to help your parents keep the air filters on your AC and furnace clean.
  8. Walk short distances instead of asking for a ride in a car.
  9. Try to take buses instead of cars, or carpool with other people.
  10. Plant trees and plants.

  11. Recycle paper.
  12. Compost.
  13. Eat all the food on your plate.
  14. If the old works, don't buy new

To save water, here are some things that you could try:

Fill a milk carton with water and put the cap on it.  Then place the carton in a toilet top away from the mechanics in the top.  The way a toilet works is when you flush it, the tank fills up with water, and then uses that water to flush.  So, with a carton that has a gallon of water in it, sure, you waste a gallon of water filling it up, but you save a gallon of water each time you flush.  So, for instance, if you have a 1.6 gallon flush toilet, then you can save a gallon of water.  Many people have 2.3 gallon flushes, so you could lower the flush to 1.3 gallons.

A trick that other people use is this:  If it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down. If you follow this, your toilet might start to smell a little, so you can put vinegar in the bowl, close the toilet lid, or close the bathroom door.  If you want a more expensive way of hiding the smell, use a spray that dilutes the smell.

Another thing that you could do is to buy a new toilet.  Some toilet making companies are making smaller flushes so you don't have to waste a lot.  Then there are the two flush toilets.  There is one model that you can pull up the flush if it is yellow, and push the flush down if it's brown.  Another model is that there are two buttons on top of the toilet, and you push the smaller button, it has a smaller flush.  You use the smaller button for yellow, and the bigger button for brown.

This picture is British, so it shows the flush size in litres, this is the conversion to gallons.

18 liters= 4.75 gallons (approx.)         6 liters= 1.5 gallons (approx.)

This page is okay but it needs more help. It's gotten better than it was at least!

This page is okay. Maybe you could add something about recycling. You could mention it connects with pollution too! Oh, you should add a sentence or so explaining what each tip actually helps slow down Global Warming. I could definitely help with the page if you want.

Excuse me for my earlier comment. I meant to say that you should add a sentence or so explaining how each tip actually helps slow down Global Warming.

I think I can help too. For the 100 ways to save the world I think we need to get that started.

OK guys. I added the 100 ways template. Fill them in when you can, make sure you are not repeating yourself, and tell your parents so they can come up with ideas. I have started them with three ways.

You guys have too much global warming stuff. Global warming is really bad, but there are other issues in the world. What about poverty, women's rights, and education. OK?

Maggie-May, women's rights is in the Women In The Village page.

5th GRADERS?! HELPFUL?! Are you so sure that that is physically possible?! I mean doesn't that go against the whole e=mc2 thing?! It defies the laws of nature! If that is really so then Pi does not really go on forever. Archimidies was wrong all those years ago about the Elements, and if 5th graders were helpful, Chuck Noris would not have such insightful Political veiws.

This page still needs work. You have 2 lists going, both with numbers. Just combine the ideas into the list of 100. are we as readers going to select something helpful based on what kind of pollution we're interested in? No! We're just looking for a way to help!
