To our Global Village!
This wiki is dedicated to all the hungry, poor, homeless, and unhappy of the world,
to show you that you are not alone.

Hello, Ciao, Konichiwa, Hola, Bonjour!
We are a class of 5th graders who have been studying world conditions. The global village consists of 100 people (1 person = 64 million) who represent the demographics of the real Earth.

Our global village was inspired by David J. Smith's book, If the World Were a Village, illustrated by Shelagh Armstrong. In this book, Smith took the entire population of the world and reduced it to a village of 100. Each of the 100 people in the village equals 64 million real people! In the book he wrote about the different living conditions of the people living in the Global Village. Still wondering how we got the name of our wiki? We hope not. All of the kids in our class split up into groups to make the different pages on our website about the things David Smith said in his book. We took information from If the World Were a Village as well as other sources our class has found.
Enjoy our site!

The pages are starting to come together. It is looking really good. Your comments should give more details. Also, it is very important that YOU LOG OUT each time or your name will stay in the edit page and anyone can change content under your name.

Looking good everyone. Amazing how this has come together. Your hard work is really paying off. The pollution page could use some research if you want to help. Global solutions could always use help. Should the Heifer Project be mentioned?

Is anyone ready to kick off books around the world with a brief book summary/review? Prob. need an easy format,
title, author, country, time period (present, historical), few sentence summary, etc.

Somebody should checkk the spelling of "shelagh armstrong" as the illustrator of the book. it doesn't look right. It is in the paragraph near the bottom. Thanks!

The map of the world was awesome! It was really interesting to show the amount of light around the earth. It shows how our country is incredibly lucky with how much technology/lighting we have compared to other country's like Africa.
