 Extinct and Endangered Species

Extinct Animals

   Did you know that scientists have found that about 100 species of plants and animals become extinct every day? We can all agree that this is because of humans. We cut down trees (the homes for birds, squirrels, etc.), we pollute the air (the life of all), we erode the ground (the home of worms, etc.), and we pollute the waters (the home of fish, etc.).Let us take a look at extinct species.

   We have done some research and have come up with a few animals that have become extinct in the new millenium. Keep in mind that there are hundreds more extinct animals than the ones we have listed.

Extinct... Animal
Mammals Western Black Rhino; Pyrenean Ibex; Miss Waldron's Red Colobus Monkey
Birds Dominican Green-and-Yellow Macaw; Guadeloupe Red Macaw; Carolina Parakeet
Reptiles Yunnan Box Turtle; Round Island Burrowing Boa; Saddle-backed Rodrigues Giant Tortoise
Amphibians Golden Toad; Marbled Toadlet; Golden Coqui
Fish Snake River Sucker; Lake Titicaca Orestias; Slumptooth Minnow
Molluscs Teberded-blossom Pearly Mussel

Insects

Xerces Blue

Arachnids

Passenger Pigeon Mite

Crustaceans

Rubious Cave Amphipod

Sea Anemones and Corals

Endangered Species

    Endangered species are almost as bad as extinct species but they are still alive, which is good. They are almost gone, but not quite. Critically endangered species are species that only have a few of their kind left.  But all the same, they are still dying because of our pollution and our hunting. These animals must keep a birth rate that is even with their mortality rate to survive and for most of them, this means human help.

    Below are some species that are endangered right now.

Some Endangered Animals;
Pandas;
Gorillas;

Rhinos;

Tigers;
Elephants;
Some kinds of whales and dolphins;
Sea turtles.

    So, as you can see, we (as humans) are doing bad things to our environment and our natural surroundings (even if they are not on purpose) and we need to start helping our planet survive.  We can do this if we try hard enough.  Remember you can make a difference!

Great start on this important topic. Humans are "evil" ? Perhaps you should be more specific as to the damages that humans do that cause animal extinction.

Okay, we changed the "evil" part.

Maybe I didn't mention this before, but when you're speaking of "endangered" animals, you say they are "thriving." If they are thriving, how are they in danger? I'm confused!

I've never heard of a velvet worm before!

I think they would be because the global village is pretty much the earth.

I did not know that there were so many endangered species. I will be careful not to pollute the environment.

Priyan, you've got to stop writting things that people all ready know all over this site!!!

Mia said

I agree with Nywira, global warming is causing many animals to be endangered. This might also lead to extinction!!!
